The third of five children, Larry was born in Brooklyn, New York to Dr. Lawrence and Helen Lavalle. Following high school he attended Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida and graduated in 1959. Banking was his first calling and that is where he met his wife of 45 years, Mary Carter in 1961. In 1964 he gathered up his young family and entered Stetson Law School in St. Petersburg graduating in 1967.

Following graduation he was chosen as the first Law Clerk for the newly appointed Judge for the Middle District of Florida, Benjamin Krentzman and he worked with him until the summer of 1968 when he moved his family to Deerfield Beach to begin practicing with Harry Fischer in Pompano Beach.

In 1969 he opened his firm, Lavalle and Reynolds with fellow law school student, Jay Reynolds, in the Amber Building in Boca Raton. As the firm evolved Larry settled into a family law practice with a focus on trial work. He earned the respect of his peers with his ethics, respect for his clients and fellow attorneys. While in practice, Larry served as the Chairman of the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce and the President of the South Palm Beach County Bar Association. At the time of his death he had lived in Boca Raton for over 38 years and left behind his wife, three children and two grandchildren.
